How to use the Library, FAQs and Library policies

Renewing your loans online

Once you have started using the Library to take out books, you will be able to renew your long-loans online for a further two weeks, provided nobody has placed a reservation on them. Watch the one-minute video below or find step-by step instructions underneath.

Renewing items online step-by-step instructions

1. Go to the Library Catalogue and log-in using the  button on the top right of the Catalogue screen. Enter your network/Moodle username and password. If you’re having trouble, or have forgotten your password get in touch with the IT helpdesk:

2. Once you’ve logged in, you will see a summary of the loans you have out in 'My Portal', as well as any that are overdue. Remember – you won’t be able to renew books online that are overdue.

3. Select current loans and click renew beside each item you want to renew. You’ll see a new due-date for those items. The closer you renew to the due-date, the longer you will get.

4. Please note – short loans are in demand and can’t be renewed. You also won't be able to renew overdue items or books that have been reserved by another student.

Reserving items that are unavailable

If an item you want to borrow is out on loan you can place a reservation online. You won't be able to reserve anything that's currently available on the shelf. Watch the one-minute video below or find step-by step instructions underneath.

Reserving items online step-by-step instructions

1. Search for the item you want in the CatalogueIf there are no copies available    you'll be able to reserve a copy. You have to log-in to your Library account to place a reservation. Use your network/Moodle username and password to log in.

2. Once you're logged in select the check box beside the item you want to reserve, then click on the Reserve button  in the tool-bar.

3. Make sure to save  your reservation or it won't work! You’ll get an email when the item is ready for collection and you need to pick it up within 3 days*

4. Don't forget to log back in and cancel your reservation  if you don't need it anymore - otherwise another student will have to wait an extra 3 days!

*The Library reserves the right to shorten this period for items in high demand
