MIE Green Campus Initiative
"The key to understanding the future is one word; sustainability" - Patrick Dixon
“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
– Jane Goodall

MIE are in the process of going for the Green Campus Award. The Green Campus initiative aims to encourage students and staff to work together to implement projects and initiatives that raise awareness of environmental issues and improve the environmental performance of their institution.
The first Green Campus event for this academic year took place on September 13th with many students taking part in the litter pick as part of the Dublin Community Clean Up. Also that week, Dr. Sandra Austin and the B.Ed 4th year Inquiry in Science Education students held a campus BioBlitz, an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time, ahead of European Day of Sustainable Communities on 18th September.
There will be plenty more events throughout the year - for more information follow the MIE Sustainability Twitter account @miesustainabil1, or check the MIE Sustainability webpage. If you'd like to get involved, come along to any of our events, or bring your ideas along to a Green Campus meeting - we usually meet about once a month at lunchtime. Or you can contact the SU Environmental Officer Elliot Guinane, or Sandra at sandra.austin@mie.ie.
