Research Data Management

This guide will bring together services and resources that you can use to help you manage and document your research outputs and data at key stages of the research cycle.

What does research data management look like in practice?

RDM begins with creating a Data Management Plan (DMP) for your project. This is often required during the application process before funding has been awarded, or at the beginning stages of a funded project. In this section you'll find guidelines for what kind of information you need to provide in a DMP, as well as tools to help speed up the process.

DMPOnline

DMPonline is a great, free tool provided by the Digital Curation Centre (DCC) that helps you to create, review, and share your data management plan, while meeting institutional and funder requirements. It provides templates to work from in order to structure your DMP document, and also provides guidance at each step of the writing process. You can browse through specific funder templates, or you can use the generic DCC template which includes the essential fields you'll need to write any DMP. Furthermore, you can browse through a library of existing sample plans to familiarise yourself with the format and appearance of a DMP.
