About Global Diversity and Children's Books

Global Awareness is a conceptual understanding based upon an applicable knowledge  of global and cultural perspectives. This understanding includes but is not limited to environmental, social, cultural, political, and economic relations/factors and their impact on the world. "Teaching children about global issues and encouraging them to see the world through other eyes is of huge importance, according to ...a growing movement of internationally-minded educators. In an increasingly interconnected world, today's young generation need to learn to be able to engage in communication with people from a wide range of different cultures and traditions."

The Library has hundreds of books (Picture Books, Junior Fiction  and Non-Fiction as well as adult textbooks) which explore these themes in arresting, interesting and often beautiful ways. Explore some highlights of our collections below!
